Maison Internationale de la Rive-Sud, in partnership with the Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion of Quebec, has offered its services to newly arrived immigrants in Quebec for 43 years.

Our team of care-providers is made of professional men and women who are dedicated to accompanying and offering their support to new comers. In a calm, warm and professional atmosphere, the team welcomes new comers, makes an assessment of their needs and proposes the best solutions to their situation. Thanks to the cultural diversity of the team, services are also available in French, English, Spanish, Mandarin, Dari, Romanian, Arabic, among others.

The MIRS care providers understand very well the different stages of settlement and are ready to support immigrants by responding to their pressing needs at the right moment.

A brief overview of the support services available: 

1. Before your departure from abroad

Regardless of your situation, if you plan to travel to Quebec to settle or to visit, you have to think of where you’re going to stay. MIRS offers a temporary housing for rent, a service that can be answer to your need. 

MIRS can accommodate you in one of its two housings – a 3 ½ unit and a 4 ½ unit – which it makes available to its clientele (See description of the service). The housings are fully furnished. They are located on the Southern-Shore of Montreal within a walking distance to the MIRS offices and close to all services.

2. When you arrive in Quebec 

As soon as you arrive in Quebec, you have to made sustained efforts to settle successfully.

MIRS can help you with: 

    • The search for housing and the signing of a lease,

    • The location of places where to buy essential goods for housing, food and even transportation. ,

    • The identification of public, private and community organisations that offer services (health, education, daycare, employment, etc.) 

    • Obtaining essential documents (resident permanent card, social insurance card, health insurance card, driver’s licence card, etc.),

    • Your enrollment into a private health insurance plan, home insurance and bank account,

    • Your subscription to different services (electricity, gas, cable, telephone, internet, etc), 

    • Your budget planning.

3. Shortly after you arrival in Quebec 
3.1. Register your children in a daycare or school

If you have young children, you will have to think of solutions.

MIRS can help you:

  • Find a daycare

  • Make an appointment with the school board for your children’s enrollment in primary or secondary school,

  • With the whole process of selecting and enrolling your children in a daycare or school.

  • Make appointments for you with the school board,

  • Guide you through the selection and registration process for enrolling your children in daycares and school.

3.2 Learn French 

If you don’t speak French well enough to find a job or to participate in different activities in society, MIRS offers full-time and part-time French courses.

3.3 Finding a job or enrolling in a study program

If you have been leaving in Quebec for less than 5 years, if you don’t have a college degree or if you are a refugee sponsored by the government (any academic level) and you have enough knowledge of the French language to be able to work or study, MIRS can help you.

  • To help integrate the job market et remain employed;

  • To support and help you during the whole process of enrolling in a school or in training programs;

  • To give to give referral to take to employers in the region based on the companies’ needs and profiles they are looking for;

  • To advise and supervise job seekers in their efforts to build a career;

  • To learn how to use different strategies and tools in a job search;

  • To help in write a CV, prepare for an interview, …;

  • To acquire knowledge of the job market in Quebec;

  • To help define an efficient action plan and a professional plan that is realistic;

  • To participate in thematic workshops: cultural behavior in employment, labor standards, etc.

If you are an immigrant, under 31 years old, looking for a job and wishes to gain a 1st time work experience in Canada, then MIRS can help you.

If you choose to register in a French class, in an employment program at MIRS, or if you need some time to for yourself, MIRS can accommodate your children under the age of 5 years in its daycare.

4. Anytime after your arrivals 

If you are over 50 years old, and maybe you are trying to meet people of your age, of your culture or another culture or if you are trying to help your parents who are over 50 years old to become part of society,  MIRS can help you.

MIRS provides seniors a space to meet so that:

  • They can exchange, share and pursue their civic engagement;

  • They can meet other seniors, have fun and learn from different activities;

  • They can cook international meals, share their culinary knowledge and a meal.
